Hello! I’m Tyler, originally an LA-native, now based in Seattle. I have a crazy cool job working in public relations, where I get to nerd out on nutrition, read hilarious food roundups, and roll my eyes at made-up nutrition for a living.
Outside of work, I am a yogi, explorer, semi-professional bruncher, restaurant and coffee shop enthusiast, kitchen scientist, and rainbow sprinkles connoisseur with an intense passion for food puns.
A little background on me: I ventured northeast (very north, very east) for college where I majored in Nutrition at Cornell University in upstate NY. Here I learned that flannels are not jackets, and Vans with thick socks don’t function as snow boots. But it is also where I [eventually] discovered my love for nutrition and paved my path toward becoming a registered dietitian!
After thoroughly exhausting my curiosity about what it’d be like to live in a city with all four seasons, I returned back to sunny California and vowed to never complain about “boring” weather again. There, I completed my dietetic internship with a concentration in Nutrition Communications and Marketing.
Perhaps one of my favorite things about growing up in LA was that it exposed me to an incredible diversity of foods and cultures and people from day one. I’ve watched nutrition and the food and beverage industry evolve all around me and continue to be amazed by it every single day. I feel so lucky to have been immersed in a beautiful, rich food culture, perusing farmers markets around the city, trying new restaurants, and being part of a foodie scene blossoming faster than I could eat.
My philosophy is that food and nutrition should be fun, balanced, and creative; diverse in color, texture, flavor, and culture; and most importantly, realistic and accessible to all. I believe in having a connection to what you eat: caring what it is, how it was made, where it came from, and how it nourishes you — belly, body and soul! I love cooking and baking, and truly believe that anyone can be their own chef in a way that fits their life. Personally, I’ve been playing in the kitchen since I had to sit on the counter top to reach the stove (in hindsight, probably not ideal, but hey I’m still here).
What you will not find here:
- Quick fixes or weight loss tips.
- Anything “clean,” “detox,” or other made-up term or questionable advice about nutrition.
- “Museum recipes” (Pretty to look – impossible to replicate)
- Anything else that makes me look more adequate than I am or food/nutrition look more complicated than it is.
(If any of the above is what you’re looking for, type “diet” in the google search bar.)
What you will find are:
- “Wait-I-could-totally-make-that” recipes
- Tips, tricks, and hacks to make real life a little easier
- Easy-to-digest nutrition info (pun always intended)
- A variety of other ramblings about places I’ve been, food I’ve tried, and lessons I’ve learned.
Welcome. Everything here is for you to enjoy. Explore new foods. Try new things. Expand your random-fact repertoire. Shake your head at bad food puns. And take everything I say with a teaspoon of salt.
Life is hard. Gotta roll with the brunches.
